in the hands of the wonder-struck

In 2024 I wrote a poem a day for the entire calendar year. I hadn't written a poem since middle school, and, truth be told, the form intimidated me.

I wanted to write more, after having put it aside for years due to burnout, and poetry seemed like a novel challenge. 

That year, I focused on output and hitting my daily deadline over quality, and... it shows. But there were some gems in there.

I took a few that I liked, added to them, remixed them, and in some cases combined multiple pieces into one new poem. I also wrote a new one to round it out.

This is the end result: in the hands of the wonder-struck is my first honest attempt at a zine, using the poetry I wrote last year, putting it into the world now at a time when the stories and media and even the very existence of people like me are being criminalized. 

We need more than trans remembrance or trans visibility. We need trans joy. We need trans saudade. We need trans lust. We need trans yearning. We need trans forelsket.
